The start of November marks an important time in the calendar for men's health and is an opportunity to raise awareness about men's health issues.
Movember Foundation is well known for encouraging men to grow a moustache throughout November, to raise awareness of men's health. Movember is an important movement to get people thinking and talking about the issues that impact on men's health and wellbeing, and the health problems can often lead to losing men too young (testicular cancer, prostate cancer, mental health). Their research shows that the state of men's health is in crisis. Throughout the month there will be events, activities, fundraisers and awareness raising campaigns popping up across the country.
Film and TV Star Ben Crompton (Game of Thrones, Ideal, Pram Face) has been supporting the Movember Men’s Health campaign in Northumberland. Ben joined the teams from Northumberland Domestic Abuse and Northumbria Healthcare Trust last week to launch the annual men’s health campaign.
See our Men & Boys Worker Richard with Ben in The Journal below, a short video interview with Ben on Chronicle Live here.
This month, across Northumberland Northumbria Healthcare Trust’s Health Trainers will be providing men with advice and ideas on testicular and prostate health, as well as diet, exercise and smoking. Northumberland Domestic Abuse Services will be sharing tips on how men can improve their mental wellbeing.
The teams will be at Leisure Centres throughout the county on the following dates in November:
Ashington Leisure Centre 9th
Hexham Leisure Centre 16th
Berwick Leisure Centre 23rd
See the teams there from 4pm – 7pm
Men of all ages are welcome to come into the centres for a quick discussion. Why not pop in before your gym session or swim, or take in a short diversion to the Leisure Centre on your way home from work or the school run?
