PCC Visit to NDAS

Yesterday, the Police & Crime Commissioner, Kim McGuiness, visited our office to talk to our practitioners and staff about the work that we do and the role that it plays in the county. Kim's Facebook page wrote:- "I spent time visiting @ndaservices this morning. A great organisation providing support to women, men and also children (who are just as much the victims of domestic abuse too). Such a valuable and far-reaching service for the towns and rural communities of Northumberland."

Spike in DA reports in Northumberland

The Hexham Courant reported on the 30% increase in domestic abuse reports from last year. Overall, the increase in reports, whilst being sad, is encouraging as it shows that more people are coming forward and receiving help and there is a growing understanding of domestic abuse. Our manager Karen, also commented in the article. https://www.hexham-courant.co.uk/news/18076634.northumbria-police-sees-spike-reports-domestic-abuse/?fbclid=IwAR0Jt2xiOrY7uF8CsOxpISnB1hNX_S5DUpQ2tdHXoMr2XQzZk_E7afO8ShY

Rattle Snake

Our Service Manager, Karen Richardson, is attending the screening of Open Clasps Rattle Snake hosted by Northumbria’s Office of Police and Crime Commissioner and Domestic Abuse Whole System Approach (DAWSA) this morning.

The cost of support for victims

Womens Aid recently posted this information: Demand for highly stretched domestic abuse services continues to rise. But without sustainable funding, many face the awful reality of turning away more women or closing forever. We want to make sure women get the support they need to escape abuse and live independent lives, free from fear. No woman should be turned away from support when she needs it the most. Our research sets out the investment needed to build a safe and sustainable future for the life-saving services that support survivors and children. Properly funding domestic abuse services will cost just a fraction of the staggering £66 billion pounds domestic abuse costs our society ever

Worry Knits for Kids

Our Service Manager, Karen Richardson, was kindly invited to attend Tynedale Soroptimists meeting last week. They enjoyed a meal and Karen was presented with knitted worry monsters and colouring books and pens for our childrens service. We are very grateful for the continued support we receive from them and The Weardale Knitters.
